Governments are rearming and racing into orbit, and the money lands on listed companies: the primes and shipyards, the makers of munitions, drones, engines and electronics, the software and services the forces run on, and the launch and satellite companies. StratDeck follows the 56 listed companies that build what that spending buys, grouped into 9 segments. Each day it shows which parts of the chain are strengthening, which are weakening, and what changed. The full list →

What changed this week?

What's changed?

Briefing for 26 Sept

Past briefings
  • Rocket Lab to acquire Iridium after shareholder approval, deal expected to close by mid-2027.

This converts Rocket Lab from a pure launch and space-hardware player into an operator with an established satellite constellation business, a structural shift in scale and revenue mix for the space segment. Rocket Lab shares rose on the day alongside other launch and space names.

    Space· RKLB, IRDM· Source

  • Leonardo and Fincantieri awarded $4.2 billion contract to build two destroyers for Italy's Navy, but Fincantieri stock fell sharply.

A major state-backed naval order confirms continued European fleet renewal spending, yet Fincantieri's 5.5% decline on the award day shows the market is not rewarding backlog additions in naval names right now, consistent with naval being one of the weakest groups.

    Primes · Naval· FCT.MI, LDO.MI· Source 1· Source 2

  • Land and munitions names sold off broadly: Rheinmetall, Kongsberg, Renk, Oshkosh and CSG all fell between roughly 3% and 6%.

The synchronized declines across multiple geographies point to a group-wide de-rating rather than company-specific news, and the land-munitions group has swung from being the strongest cohort a week ago to one of the weakest, with Oshkosh among names recently turning down.

    Land and munitions· RHM.DE, KOG.OL, R3NK.DE, OSK, CSG.AS

  • Northrop Grumman lands a Navy radar deal and Lockheed Martin commits $10 million to expand its Canada footprint.

Both moves show primes continuing to add international and service-specific business even as the prime contractor group overall has weakened sharply, including RTX and General Dynamics both recently turning down, suggesting new awards are not yet lifting prime sentiment broadly.

    Primes· NOC, LMT· Source 1· Source 2

  • GE Aerospace stock rose after securing $225 million in funding for physical AI development.

The award adds a new technology angle to GE's engine business and comes as the aero-engines group is the standout strengthening cohort in the sector, with MTU Aero Engines also recently turning up.

    Aero engines· GE· Source

  • Space stocks Planet Labs, Karman and Firefly Aerospace each jumped between 5% and 8% on a day with no company-specific news for them in the pack.

The gains ran well ahead of the modest news flow (Redwire's award, the Rocket Lab-Iridium approval), suggesting renewed risk appetite for space names broadly even as the space group overall remains one of the weaker cohorts in the sector.
