Blackstone reported third-quarter results that beat expectations, and its shares closed 8.4% higher.
Chairman Stephen Schwarzman said inflows reached $63 billion, which shows investors are still handing money to big private-markets managers. Blackstone is also leading a $300 million debt package for the Gooch & Housego buyout, so lending and deal work sit beside fundraising. KKR also closed 3.6% higher, so the read-across reached other large alternative managers.

Nasdaq reported third-quarter results, and exchange and data stocks rose together, with Nasdaq up 7.5%.
London Stock Exchange Group closed 7.7% higher, Intercontinental Exchange 3.9% and CME Group 3.5%. The gains across the group suggest the market read the Nasdaq results as good news for the whole exchange and data business, not only for Nasdaq. The whole group is now strengthening. Intercontinental Exchange reports on 29 October.

Chubb reported record underwriting income in the third quarter, and Progressive and Allstate shares closed higher.
Underwriting income is what an insurer earns from writing policies, before investment returns, so a record is a sign that pricing and claims are working for insurers. Progressive rose 3.7% and Allstate 3.2%, which suggests the market saw Chubb's result as good for property and casualty insurers in general. Insurers are strong as a group and that is unchanged on the week.

Visa announced a $2.5 billion investment aimed at the future of money, a week before its earnings.
It shows the largest card network putting capital into new payment methods, which bears on how card networks and card lenders defend their position. Visa reports on 27 October. Payments and cards stocks have been strengthening over the week.

Online brokers Robinhood and Interactive Brokers both closed lower, down 5.2% and 3.6%.
The brokers group has weakened over the week, so the fall was shared across the group and not one company's problem. Robinhood reports on 27 October, so its results are the next test for the group.
