What changed in defence and space, and why it mattered.
Aerospace and defence component and electronics suppliers sold off, led by Curtiss-Wright down 8.0%.
Arxis fell 4.9%, Applied Aerospace & Defense 4.6%, Howmet 3.8% and Kratos 4.0%. Components were already weak and electronics has been weakening over the week, so the move landed on a soft group. No company-specific news in the pack accounts for the drop, and the Kratos fall is the only large move in drones-autonomy.

European orders kept coming: Romania ordered 12 Airbus H225M helicopters, RENK won a Patria transmission order, and German lawmakers approved funds for an eight-ship sub-hunting frigate fleet.
These are firm procurement decisions, in helicopters, tracked-vehicle drivetrains and naval ships, which is what turns European budget intent into supplier revenue. The European Council summit on 2026-10-15 takes up joint funding for European procurement, and that decision sits with governments, not companies. The pack shows no stock reaction to these orders, and naval names remained weak.

Lockheed Martin and Embraer are competing for India's $10.5B military transport aircraft deal.
A contest of this size shows how India is using competition to shape its airlift fleet, and it is a possible export win for Lockheed Martin. Nothing in the pack says when it will be decided. Primes were weak on the day and this does not change that.
The Army awarded just under $100M in NGC2 application awards to nine companies, and General Dynamics picked Primordial to build an AI assistant for combat vehicle crews.
Both items show Army spending moving toward software and AI layered on vehicles and networks, and the awards went to nine companies rather than one. AUSA on 2026-10-12 is when Army programme news clusters, so more such announcements are likely this week. The pack does not name the NGC2 winners.

Private money kept flowing into security space and autonomous systems: Fortastra raised a $30M Series A, the Navy and Shield AI are investing in the X-BAT drone, and Gecko Robotics and Anduril will build a Baltimore County shipyard.
Venture-backed firms are winning funding and government backing in areas where listed companies also compete, such as spacecraft, drones and shipbuilding. None of these companies is a listed universe member, so they matter as competitive pressure and a signal of where money is going, not as a direct move in any stock.
Most of defence and space remains weak, with only aero-engines and software-services holding up.
Primes, land-munitions and electronics weakened further over the week, while naval, drones-autonomy and components stayed weak. Aero-engines held firm and software-services was unchanged. Today's drops were therefore concentrated in groups that were already soft, not a break in a healthy market.
