AI Infrastructure:
What changed in the AI trade, and why it mattered.

Super Micro Computer said its latest quarter brought in about $19 billion, and its shares jumped 11%.
Super Micro builds the servers that hold AI chips, so a quarter this size points to customers still buying AI hardware. Dell and HPE rose with it, so the read-across is to server makers as a group, and it stood out on a day when much of the wider theme closed lower.

Nvidia is in the news twice: reports say Chinese tech giants ordered about $35 billion of its export-compliant RTX Pro 5500 workstation chips, and it is reportedly in talks to invest in Firmus Grid.
If the China order reports hold up, it would show demand for Nvidia products that fit within export rules. The Firmus Grid talks, after that company's IPO was scrapped, would show Nvidia helping to fund the customers who buy its chips. Both are reports rather than confirmed deals.

Reuters reports Samsung and SK Hynix are upgrading their China plants to make more advanced chips, and SK Hynix closed 4.2% lower.
The two largest names in the memory sector are putting money into more advanced production, which bears on memory supply and on the equipment makers that sell into those plants. Memory shares did not move together: Western Digital closed 3.4% higher. SK Hynix reports results on 2026-10-27 and Samsung on 2026-10-28.

TSMC shares rose 2.5% as its $53.3 billion sales target put its profit margins in focus.
TSMC makes the chips for much of the AI industry, so its sales target is a gauge of how much chip demand it expects. The open question is whether margins hold up as sales grow, and that matters for both chip designers and equipment suppliers.

Semtech gave an updated outlook at its data center analyst day, and its shares closed 4.2% lower.
Semtech gave an updated third-quarter outlook and a framework out to fiscal 2030, so the day was about the company's own plans for data center sales. Networking peer MaxLinear also fell, by 4.7%, and reports results on 2026-10-22, so the networking group is where the market was weakest on the day.
