What changed in the AI trade, and why it mattered.
SK Hynix fell 10.1% and Micron 3.6% as memory led a broad sell-off
Memory is the sharpest weak spot in the AI hardware complex today. SK Hynix is the largest single move in the pack, and memory has weakened sharply over the past week, from fully strong to only two of five names holding up. CXMT saying its first 4F² DRAM will be a server DDR5 RDIMM due by year-end is a reminder that Chinese supply is moving toward server memory, though the pack does not tie it to today's drop.
Semicap equipment names fell together: Applied Materials down 6.7%, Cadence 4.1%, Onto and Cohu 3.7% each, Camtek 3.3%, KLA 3.2%
The drop hit chip equipment and design tools across the board, which points to a sector-wide move and not a single-company problem. The group is weakening from a strong position, with Camtek the one name to slip in the past week. ASML reports on 2026-10-14 and is the next read on equipment demand.

A report says Chinese AI companies bought 1 million Nvidia GPUs in a single year
If accurate, it points to large Chinese demand for Nvidia accelerators. The pack gives no details or sourcing, so treat the claim with caution. Nvidia did not appear among today's notable moves.
NTT reportedly plans a $6.3 billion data center in Japan for Anthropic, and Oracle closed 4.2% higher
A report of a multi-billion-dollar build dedicated to a single AI lab shows model developers still driving physical capacity, this time in Asia. Oracle was the main hyperscaler gainer, but the pack does not link its rise to this report.
Neoclouds CoreWeave and Applied Digital fell 3.0% and 3.5%
The neocloud group was weak on the day, and it is the weakest sector in the pack, with only one of three names holding up, though that is unchanged on the week. It sits on the AI demand chain, so it moved with the wider risk-off tone.
AMD unveiled the Helion reference design for agentic AI servers, with up to 32,768 Zen 6 Venice cores
It shows AMD pushing a rack-scale CPU-heavy design for agentic AI workloads. AMD did not appear among today's notable moves.
Sector strength weakened in most areas, most of all memory, while servers and hyperscalers held firm
Memory weakened sharply, and data center infrastructure, compute, semicap, networking and power each eased. Servers, hyperscalers and neoclouds were unchanged on the week. The pullback was concentrated in memory and chip equipment, not an even drop everywhere.
